○ 準２級 パッセージに関する問題大勢の方が点数を落とす難問だそうだが、冷静にパッセージ（カードに載っている文章）を見てみると、聞かれる問題を予想できる。
ほとんどの場合、受験者が読む文中『because...』はない！ 例：<about summer> The temperature in summer is higher than that in winter, so people wear lighter clothes then. 冬より夏の気温が高いので、その時に（＝夏）軽い服装を身につける Question : According to the passage, why do people wear lighter clothes in summer? パッセージによると、なぜ夏の服装は軽いか？ Answer: Because the temperature is higher then. 例：<about big cities> Nowadays the population of big cities is highly concentrated. Each inhabitant wants to have their own car in order to commute to work or to go shopping, so the traffic situation in many big cities has become a big problem. 近日、大都市の人口密度は非常に高い。通勤や買い物のため、住民はそれぞれ自動車が必要で、大都市の交通状態は問題になってきた。 Question : According to the passage, why has the traffic situation become a big problem in big cities? パッセージによると、なぜ大都市の交通状態が問題になってきたか？ Answer : Because each inhabitant wants to have their own car in order to commute to work or to go shopping. | |

○ ２級 パッセージに関する問題準２級と同様、 why? や how? の答えは ..., so ... や ..., and in this way ... にあるが、問題のレベルが一つ上がる。この so や in this way などの前の ... に、such... や those [this, that] ... などの曖昧な表現が含まれている。例：<about big cities ②> Nowadays the population of big cities is highly concentrated. In many cases, public transportation alone is not sufficient. Each inhabitant wants to have their own car in order to commute to work or to go shopping. Since many people use such means of transportation, so the traffic situation in many big cities has become a big problem. 近日、大都市の人口密度は非常に高い。公共交通機関だけで足りない場合が多い。通勤や買い物のため、住民はそれぞれ自動車が必要だ。そんな手段を使うことによって、大都市の交通状態は問題になってきた。 ..., so や ..., and in this way などの前の文（節）が理由・原因を指し、答えとなるが、上の例では such means of transportation 「こう言った交通手段」は正解にならない。もう一つ前の文中を scan して、 「such」は何を指すかを探す必要がある。 □ ほとんどの場合、受験者が読む文中『because...』はない！ | |
